This is way back. A mural I did behind the bar at Farley’s in Las Cruces, New Mexico USA.If the wall was transparent, you would see those mountains right there. Not that color, though. Those are the Organs. On the other side of them is White Sands Missile Range, at the north end of which is Trinity Site where the first atomic bomb was lit off. That’s the doomsday clock up in the corner. The Ghost Riders in the Sky are chasing the herd & being followed by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The Old Cowpoke is down there on the prairie. This is more recent. This is at Farley’s #3 in Roswell.
All New Mexico
is apparently on fire
fly firebombers fly.
Now it’s the 4th of july weekend in the year 2011 .
We have moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We live in an apartment, half a block from Route 66, the Mother Road.
Nothing will ever be the same again.
Escape from Roswell
Maybe I’ll do a graphic novel about our wonderful adventures in Roswell; why we moved there from the California wine country; how we joined the all-volunteer UFO Festival committee & transformed the whole town & its economy (not); insane alcoholic restaurateurs, narcissistic radio station owners, meth cooks, rabbit catchers & lots of Christians. Hilarity ensued. Maybe later.
Things I actually liked about Roswell & will miss:
The Spring River Recreation Trail
The prairie dog town right around the corner from our house
RAIR openings
So now we’re in Albuquerque, where they fly balloons every day.
At least in the first week of October.
Going Out of Business
When I started Signs Of Life, I would put “established 2001” under the name on my advertising. Like the Yellow Pages. That was part of this thing we called the Phone Book, where you look up people’s phone numbers, & see what businesses were in town & where they were. It amused me to think that some day I would say “Yeah, I started way back in 2001”. I grew up in the 50s; 2001 was always the Distant Future. I really didn’t expect to live that long. Anyway, that was 10 years ago. It didn’t really work out. Time to move on.
